American Tour '13

Better late than pregnant. Wait. Anyway, here's the summary of my trip home.

I did not anticipate how hard it would be saying goodbye to Josh at the airport. When I booked the flight, 6 weeks seemed like a great amount of time for a visit. It wasn't until I was saying goodbye to Josh at the security checkpoint, that I realized 6 weeks is actually a pretty long time. I had a meltdown before we parted ways... and when I did let him go I sniffled continuously until about L.A. But things got better!

July 3......

-I visited Seattle (Hipsterville) for the first time ever and reunited with my very dear friend Heather, whom I met while I lived in Korea. I also got to meet her new hubby, Sam and their adorable furball, Henry. We took a day trip to Portland (Super-Hipsterville) and had the best day of people watching ever.

-When I made it back to my Midwestern homeland, I was overwhelmed by so many friends and family that wanted to see me.

-One of my dearest and oldest friends, Julie hosted a lovely open house and baby book shower celebrating the newest traveling Deitner. It was so perfect.  I saw so many people I haven't seen for a year (or more).

-I had a deliciously awesome solo road trip to northern Illinois to spend quality time with my bestie cousin Alicia. (Seriously, you realize it has been a year since I've last driven a car, right?) Wow, the Midwest is awesome. The air is fresh, the land is green, and you can actually see the stars at night. So very beautiful.

-Then it was on to Ohio, where I got to see more of mine and Josh's family. My sweet grandma and aunts also threw a lovely shower for Baby D. Between the two parties, our little one is set up with everything he could possibly need!

-And my sister-in-law, Leah's babies decided they wanted to meet me before I left too. Welcome to the world Evan and Gus!

-When I got back to Illinois, I was so thankful for all my friends who joined me as I checked items off my American food bucket list. I'd post it... but it's kind of embarrassing. But I will say I did manage to eat at the Thai House 4 times while home. Perfection.

-Oh, and mom and I went to a Backstreet Boys concert. Whaaaa?!

August 14.....

Overall, it was a great trip. The only thing better would have been to have Josh by my side. So, when he arrived at the airport to pick me up, I cried and cried tears of joy. I'm not thrilled to be back in China necessarily. But I'm happy to be back in this crazy adventure with the best guy ever.

It's been swell, 'Merica. We'll see you next year, the three of us.
